Artist’s Statement: Drawing inspiration from the sociopolitical vein of street photography spanning from the work of Robert Frank to that of contemporary artists such as Zoe Strauss, I make images that speak to our common longing for progress that is never coming. My aesthetic is an explosive color that mimics the circus and visibly captures the past in the present moment. I do not stage scenes or engage actors, instead preferring the approach of the street photographer. While moving physically and emotionally toward merriment, the subjects of my photographs are stuck no place in particular, in small towns or overcrowded cities. In spite of excess, their expectations are unmet, their lives gone unfulfilled. - Robyn Day
